Crochet Ice Cream Earrings: FREE Pattern

Summer is finally here in Michigan! In the spirit of the beautiful weather, I thought it’d be fun to create some crochet ice cream cone earrings. They’re quick, easy, and super customizable—just 9 rows worked in the spiral, and you can mix and match your favorite colors to make them totally your own. Whether you’re into pastel scoops or bold, bright cones, these are a fun little project to whip up when you’ve got a few extra minutes (and want something cute to show for it).

More than just earrings, these little cones can be made into keychains, fancy stitch markers, bag charms, party favors… the opportunities are endless! Let’s dive into the free crochet pattern.

Ice Cream Cone Earrings Pattern

These ice cream cones are crocheted in the round, meaning you don’t need to join your work with a slip stitch at the end of each row except when beginning the cone section. This will help you get an even color change. Use a stitch marker to keep track of where your rows begin. (I’ve been loving these glow-in-the-dark cat stitch markers from SunnyKayLooms!)

Row 1: With your desired ice cream scoop color, make 6sc in a magic ring. (6)

Row 2: (sc inc) in each stitch around. (12)

Row 3: sc in each stitch around. (12)

Row 4: sc in each stitch around. (12)

Change to your tan or other cone-colored yarn and ss to the first stitch of round 3. Chain 1.

Row 5. With your cone-colored yarn, sc in the back loop of each stitch around. (12) This will create stitches for you to crochet in later.

Row 6: (2sc, 1 sc dec) x 3. (9)

Row 7: (1sc, 1sc dec) x 3 (6)

Row 8: (sc dec) around. (3)

Tie off and leave a tail to finish. Thread your yarn tail on a tapestry needle. Insert your needle in the front loops only from outside to inside for all 3 stitches. Pull to close and weave in the tail.

Finishing Touches

Now that we have our basic ice cream shape, it’s time for one more finishing touch! Remember how we worked those stitches in the back loop when starting the cone? We’re going to use the remaining front loops to give the scoop of ice cream some extra pizazz.

Holding your ice cream cone right-side-up, attach your ice cream color yarn to any of the remaining front loops. Sc into all 12 stitches to create the bottom of the ice cream scoop. Tie off and weave in your ends, and your cone is done!

Feel free to accessorize your cone with some sprinkles, like I did for the mint chocolate chip cone.

Attaching the Earring Hooks

Cut a 6-inch piece of yarn in a color that matches your ice cream scoop. Using a small crochet hook (I used a 1mm) or your fingers, pull the yarn through the wire loop at the bottom of the earring hook. Tie a knot to secure the yarn in place. You now have two tails hanging down from the earring hook.

Use a needle to thread one of the yarn tails through the first row at the top of the scoop. To do this, insert your needle into any stitch within the top 6 stitches of the scoop and bring it through to the stitch directly across from it.

Next, remove the first tail from your needle. Thread the other tail and insert it through the same two stitches, but from the opposite side.

You should now have both yarn tails coming out on opposite sides of the top row. Pull them snug so the earring hook sits flush with the top of the scoop. Weave each tail in for a couple of stitches so they exit at the same spot on the cone. Tie the ends in a double knot, and use your tapestry needle to tuck the knot inside your work.
